First run in forever

Ok, so I signed up with a local gym a couple of weeks ago in order to complete the Janathon next month. Generally speaking I find gyms a bit boring and monotonous. I love running outside but I am most definitely a ‘fair-weather’ runner!

I thought I had better find my running mo-jo before I start running every day in January so headed to the gym this evening. One of the main things I liked this particular gym out of the many to choose from is their ‘dark’ room – plenty of treadmills, cross-trainers and bassy music and no-one able to see if you can work the equipment properly!

So first run in forever is done……..

Treadmill

Distance: 3km

Time: 25.12 mins

Average: 8.37 mins/km

Not fantastic but gives me something to improve on. I would love to run 5km in 35 minutes by the end of January 2011 so am setting this as my first goal for 2011.

Dark room? Running in the dark on a treadmill? I think that would freak me out a bit!

It’s not as freaky as you might think. There are UV lights in there so it’s not completely pitch black and has a mahoosive screen.

I found it really helped concentrate on my running rather than people watching which I have a tendency to do.

  2. Hello,

Treadmill running is sooo boring but for me it’s a needed evil over the winter. I live in the city centre so there’s far to much ice about!

Good luck with janathon, I’m doing it too and also hoping it will help to improve my times! Fingers crossed…

We’ve had plenty of ice round here too so understand why you wouldn’t want to venture out for a run.

Best of luck with Janathon and improving times :)

  3. UV lights? Can you get a tan? :-)
